Description
What is MAITU
MAITU is a powerful post emergence herbicide developed for wheat farmers across Pakistan. It contains two strong active ingredients, Clodinafop propargyl 6.5 percent and Flucarbazone Sodium 6.5 percent, formulated together in an OD system for better spreading and leaf coverage. This combination gives fast, effective and long lasting control of annual grass weeds that compete heavily with wheat.
The product belongs to the chemistry group Aryloxyphenoxypropionate and Sulfonylaminocarbonyltriazolinone, known worldwide for effective grass weed control. Its mode of action falls under ACCase inhibitors, also called Group 1 herbicides in global classification. MAITU works best when applied after weeds have emerged in the wheat field. It delivers clean rows, stronger tillering and better yield potential.
MAITU is suitable for wheat farmers in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where grassy weeds such as wild oat and canary grass reduce crop performance. The pack size of 300 ml makes it easy to use and convenient for different field sizes. The recommended pre harvest interval is 60 to 70 days.
MAITU is made to support Pakistani farmers by improving weed control, reducing crop stress and helping the crop reach its full yield.
Key Benefits
- Strong post emergence control of annual grass weeds in wheat.
- Dual action chemistry gives faster and deeper weed suppression.
- Helps wheat plants grow stronger with better tillering.
- Reduces competition for nutrients, sunlight and water.
- Works well across different climates in Pakistan.
- Clean and uniform fields improve overall wheat yield.
How It Works
MAITU works by blocking the ACCase enzyme inside grassy weeds. This enzyme is needed for building fatty acids that form the cell membranes of the weed. When the enzyme is blocked, the growing points of the weed stop functioning. The weed slowly dries, stops growing and dies completely.
Clodinafop propargyl enters the weed leaves quickly and moves through the plant system to shut down growth. Flucarbazone Sodium enhances the activity by interrupting amino acid synthesis in the target weeds. Together they create a strong double strike effect. Because of this, MAITU is able to handle even strong and competitive grass weeds in wheat fields.
The herbicide is selective to wheat due to its ability to break down the molecules safely within the crop. This allows wheat to grow while weeds are removed efficiently.
Target Pests and Diseases
Main Targets:
- Annual grass weeds in wheat
- Post emergence grassy weeds
These include common weed types that harm wheat productivity by competing for space, water, nutrients and sunlight.
Other Crops & Diseases
Although MAITU is registered for wheat in Pakistan, the active ingredients Clodinafop propargyl and Flucarbazone Sodium are globally recognized for activity in similar grassy weed problems in other crops. Below is a science-based reference list for understanding the broader spectrum of the molecules.
✔ 1. Barley
Diseases Controlled: Wild oat, Canary grass, Foxtail species
Benefits / Usage / Why Effective / Ideal Conditions: Strong grass weed control in early season. Useful in cool climate cereal areas. Works best when weeds are young and actively growing.
✔ 2. Oats
Diseases Controlled: Wild oat, Barnyard grass
Benefits / Usage / Why Effective / Ideal Conditions: Helps maintain clean crop rows. Reduces yield losses from weed competition.
✔ 3. Rye
Diseases Controlled: Wild oat, Green foxtail, Yellow foxtail
Benefits / Usage / Why Effective / Ideal Conditions: Effective for large fields with grassy weed pressure. Works well under moderate temperature conditions. Provides longer control with proper timing.
✔ 4. Triticale
Diseases Controlled: Canary grass, Foxtail species
Benefits / Usage / Why Effective / Ideal Conditions: Supports crop uniformity and better grain filling. Ideal for regions with mixed weed populations.

Local Advice for Pakistani Farmers
Farmers in Punjab benefit from MAITU during November to December wheat sowing when wild oat and canary grass emerge early. Sindh farmers can use it for late sowing conditions and irrigated fields where grassy weeds grow fast. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa fields with cooler temperatures support rapid weed germination, making post emergence control very important. Balochistan farmers dealing with dry soils and limited water can rely on MAITU for reducing competition and conserving moisture for wheat.
The herbicide supports crop protection in Balochistan, pest control in Punjab and weed management across Sindh and KPK. Balanced soil fertility, timely irrigation and proper spray timing improve effectiveness under Pakistani climate and rainfall patterns.
